Podium for Shields as McLean Suffers in X30 Mini
Ivan Lomliev was handed victory on Sunday afternoon in X30 Mini, after race leaders Josh Rowledge and Fusion’s Josh McLean collided at the last corner on the last lap of the A Final.
In Timed Qualifying, Rowledge posted the fastest time ahead of Freddie Spindlow and Lomliev. The Fusion pair of Jess Edgar and McLean followed in 4th and 5th, with Cian Shields 7th and debutant for the team Zac Meakin rounding out the top 10.
Rashan Chigorimbo was victorious in Heat 1, making up 5 places, ahead of Rowledge and Spindlow. Working together throughout the heat were the Fusion drivers of McLean (4th), Shields (5th) and Edgar (6th), before Meakin made up one place to 9th.
In Heat 2, Rowledge took the win again ahead of Spindlow and Lomliev, whilst Shields was the highest placed Fusion driver in 4th, posting fastest lap along the way. Both Edgar and McLean were unfortunate to lose out on positions finishing 6th and 7th, despite only being a tenth off the quickest time.
After Rowledge started from Pole Position, he quickly pulled a gap at the start of the Final. However the chasing trio of Spindlow, McLean and Lomliev were closing in rapidly, and it wasnt long before there was a 4 kart battle for the lead. After the lead chopped and changed throughout the closing laps, it came down to a 1 on 1 battle between Rowledge and McLean for win. Despite some strong defensive driving, McLean was able to get the ‘cut back’ on Rowledge out of the last corner, however Rowledge didn’t agree, moving across on McLean resulting in the 2 coming together, only metres before the line. This opened up an opportunity for Lomliev to take full advantage and take the win, ahead of Shields and Chigorimbo. Edgar and Meakin finished a respectful 5th and 6th for the team, before McLean finally got going again to cross the line in 18th.
